A hectic day of testing with eleven of the twelve teams on track proved fruitful for Lotus, who managed 138 laps today, and along with Alonso in the Ferrari (141 laps) were the only team who went over 100 laps, though Barrichello and Maldonado added up to 100 together (unfortunately the promised rain for tomorrow had Williams and Mercedes giving their second drivers a few laps in the afternoon). Paul di Resta also subbed for Adrian Sutil in the afternoon.
The new Mercedes package seems to have proved itself, with Schumacher and Rosberg taking the first and third-fastest times. Altogether, there were less than three seconds between the first and twelfth-fastest times, which is impressive. Only Virgin seem to be off the pace, perhaps just because they’re running different tests. However, the big problem is McLaren who have been struggling consistently and were 4.5 seconds off the pace.
