On This Day:
Practice took place for last year’s Brazilian GP. Jean-Eric Vergne took the place of Jaime Alguersuari in the morning, and would go on to join Toro Rosso as a driver for 2012. Romain Grosjean took Vitaly Petrov’s place at Renault, and Nico Hulkenberg drove instead of Adrian Sutil at Force India. Both Tonio Liuzzi and Jarno Trulli sat out the session, making it the first since the 2005 US Grand Prix that an Italian had not taken part in an official F1 session.
Lewis Hamilton took pole spectacularly at Interlagos yesterday. He was joined on the front row by teammate Jenson Button. Sebastian Vettel will start fourth, behind teammate Mark Webber, whilst Felipe Massa starts 5th. Fernando Alonso will start 7th having qualified 8th. Pastor Maldonado received a reprimand for not not turning in to the weighbridge. This was this third reprimand of the season and so he got a 10-place grid penalty. The Venezuelan will start sixteenth.
