Countdown to 2013 Formula One season: 100 days!!

IndyCar’s James Hinchcliffe, who took two podiums on his way to 8th in this year’s IndyCar championship, is 26 today.

On This Day:
Former McLaren and BRM driver Peter Gethin, who took his only win at the 1971 Italian Grand Prix in F1’s closest finish ever, died one year ago today. It’s was Fethin’s only points that season, and his next-best finish in the series was sixth place in Canada (1970) and Italy (1972). He only completed one full season of F1, but showed his talent in non-championship races with several podiums and two victories: the 1971 victory race and the 1973 Race of Champions.

Status Grand Prix and IndyCar outfit HVM Racing are going into partnership to enter a car in the WEC for 2013 in the LMP2 class.
Oriol Servia is set to continue with the PantherDRR IndyCar team for the 2013 season. The Spaniard’s best IndyCar season was 2011 when he finished fourth. He also came fourth in the 2012 Indy 500. He previously drove in Champ Car and Indy Lights.

Stat of the Day:
Negative stat of the day for today. Charles Pic was overtaken 70 times in the 2012 Formula One season. That’s more than any driver in F1 history! Hopefully things won’t go so badly in 2013 at Caterham.
