Countdown to 2013 Formula One season: 94 days

Happy birthday to Russian race driver Daniil Move, who is 27 today!

On This Day:
Championship contender Stirling Moss secured pole position at the 1959 US Grand Prix. Alongside him was championship leader Jack Brabham, and it seemed Tony Brooks was third on the three-man front row. But in fact Harry Schell was third-fastest, having set the time towards the end of the season. Schell had in fact cut the track to take six seconds off his time. Without TV coverage, the time was challenged but not removed.

Rubens Barrichello has signed in 2013 for a full season in the Brazilian Stock Car series, having last year competed in IndyCar.
P1 Motorsport have signed Will Stevens for the 2013 Formula Renault 3.5 season.
Jolyon Palmer has joined Felipe Nasr at Carlin for the 2013 GP2 season.

Stat of the Day:
Only one country has managed to secure 100% of races by driver nationality in a single F1 season: Britain. In the 1963 season, all ten races were won by British drivers, though not all in British cars. John Surtees won the German Grand Prix that year for Ferrari. The other wins were taken by Jim Clark for Lotus, and Graham Hill for BRM.
