Countdown to 2013 Formula One season: 86 days

Kamui Kobayashi has announced that he will not be racing in F1 next season after failing to secure a seat at a competitive team.
As expected, Max Chilton has been signed by Marussia for the 2013 F1 season. He will be racing alongside Timo Glock, and be the fourth British driver on the grid.
Russian youngster Sergei Sirotkin has been signed by ISR for the 2013 Formula Renault 3.5 season.
Force India will launch their 2013 contender on February 1st at Silverstone.
Addax have signed Indonesian driver Rio Haryanto for the 2013 GP2 season.

Stat of the Day:
Max Chilton is Timo Glock’s fourth teammate in as many years at Virgin/Marussia. The first teammate was Brazilian driver Lucas di Grassi. Di Grassi had a highly-successful GP3 career, finishing second in 2007, and third in 2008 and 2009. He won five races in GP2 and took 20 podiums in his four seasons. He has more recently been competing in endurance racing, and testing for Pirelli.
He was replaced in 2011 by Belgian driver Jerome d’Ambrosio. D’Ambrosio also came from GP2, but was much less successful, having won only a single race and with four podiums in his three seasons. This year he was testing for Lotus, and replaced Romain Grosjean at the Italian GP.
In 2012, Charles Pic took his turn at Marussia. The popular French driver competed in two seasons of GP2, winning his first race in the series and finishing fourth in 2011. He took seven podiums altogether. In 2013, he will drive for Caterham.
Max Chilton also comes from GP2. He competed in three seasons, most recently with Marussia Carlin. His first two years were unsuccessful, but he shone in 2012 and took two wins and four podiums. He finished fourth in the championship.

Chilton’s brother Tom had a successful BTCC career and is now competing in the WTCC.
