Countdown to 2013 Formula One season: 58 days

On This Day:
Jose Froilian Gonzalez had pole for Ferrari at the 1955 Argentine Grand Prix, but it was local driver and world champion Juan Manuel Fangio who won for Mercedes. The temperature was recorded at 104 Farenheit, the hottest F1 race of all time and matched only by the 1984 Dallas Grand Prix, and the 2005 Bahrain Grand Prix.

Mitch Evans, 2012 GP3 champion, has been signed by Arden for their 2013 GP2 team. He will partner Johnny Cecotto, Jr.
Cyril Despres of France has regained the lead of the bikes at Dakar.
Andrey Karginov of Russia now leads the trucks.
Cars and quads have not changed in leadership.
Thierry Neuville was fastest in the shakedown at Rallye Monte-Carlo. Sebastian Loeb was second-fastest.

Dakar continues with stage 11.
WRC Monte Carlo begins tomorrow with stage one at 9:03 local time.
