Countdown to 2013 Formula One season: 56 days

Christian Fittipaldi, son of Emerson, is 42 today.
World champion Gilles Villeneuve would have been 63 today.
The first Mexican F1 star, Pedro Rodriguez, would have been 73 today.

On This Day:
The first F1 race outside of Europe took place in 1953. Argentina was the location, and Italian star Alberto Ascari took pole and the win. Mike Hawthorn made his debut. The race was marred by a nasty crash for Nino Farina which killed 13 spectators.

2012 F2 driver Rene Binder has turned to GP2 for the 2013 season. The Austrian will be driving for Venezuela GP Lazarus.
Kiwi driver Nick Cassidy was fastest in the wet test sessions at Timaru for the Toyota Racing Series.
No change in the leaders at Dakar as the race draws towards its close. The only category where a change in leadership is really possible (outside of a race retirement) is the bikes.
Sebastian Loeb still leads the Rallye Monte-Carlo after two days.
Mercedes and Toro Rosso will be launching their cars on February 4th at Jerez.
