Countdown to 2013 Formula One season: 45 days

F1 world champion Jody Scheckter is 63.
Indy 500 polesitter during the F1 era, Jerry Hoyt, was born on this day in 1929.

On This Day:
Ronnie Peterson had pole for Lotus, but Ferrari won the 1978 Brazilian Grand Prix with Carlos Reutemann. It was the first win in F1 for a Michelin tyre.

Lotus have launched their 2013 F1 challenger, the E21.
Lotus’s reserve drivers for 2013 will be GP2 champion Davide Valsecchi, Jerome d’Ambrosio, and Nicolas Prost.
Simon Trummer has been signed by Rapax for the 2013 GP2 season.
The British F3 championship has been reduced to four rounds at Silverstone, Spa, Brands Hatch and the Nurburgring after a smaller-than-expected number of entrants signed for the series.
Patric Niederhauser will remain at Jenzer for the 2013 GP3 season.

Stat of the Day:
The 1978 Brazilian GP was Michelin’s first F1 victory. They competed in F1 until 1984, and returned in 2001. In 2006 they took their final victory at the Japanese GP, before backing out of the sport following the 2005 US Grand Prix controversy. In total they won 102 races, taking 6 driver and 4 constructor championships with their teams.
