Countdown to 2013 Formula One season: 22 days

Indian driver Pathiva Sureshwaren is 33 today.
British racing driver Peter Gethin, who drove for McLaren and BRM, and won the 1971 Italian GP by 0.01s in one of the fastest F1 races ever, was born on this day 73 years ago. He died in 2011 after a long illness.

It was Sergio Perez who topped the timesheets at Barcelona yesterday.
New GP3 driver Carlos Sainz topped the times at Estoril with MW Arden. Tio Ellinas was fastest in the morning, while Daniil Kvyat and David Fumanelli were also putting in good lap times. Bamboo and Korainen made their debuts, while Status GP featured a new livery.
The new Pirelli tyres have been described as being ‘extreme’ by Sergio Perez, and are likely to result in many more pit stops, at least in the early races of the season.
GP2 new team Manor MP (remotely connected to Manor in GP3) have signed Adrian Quaiffe-Hobbs to their team alongside Daniel de Jong. He is current Auto GP champion and came 5th in the 2011 GP3 season.
